பொங்கு - Pongu
III. v. i. boil over, bubble up, கொதி; 2. foam and rage (as the sea) கொந்தளி; 3. ferment, புளி; 4. be agitated (by joy, anger etc.) மனம் பொங்கு; 5. be puffed up with pride; 6. abound, flourish, செழி; v. t. boil rice, சோறாக்கு.
பொங்கலாண்டி, பொங்கலான், a cook. பொங்கலிட, to boil rice without straining off the water in which it has been boiled. பொங்கி வழிய, to boil over. பொங்கல், v. n. & s. boiling, bubbling up; 2. raging as the sea; 3. a great festival in honour of the sun on its entering the sign of capricorn about the 11th january; 4. boild rice. பொங்கல் வரிசை, the presents given to married woman by her parents at the பொங்கல் feast; 2. presents sent to a superior at the time. சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கல், rice boiled with sugar.
