சிரமம் - Siramam
s. effort, fatigue, கஷ்டம்; 2. fencing, military exercise, சிலம்பம்.
அதில் வெகு சிரமமிருக்கிறது, it requires much toil and exertion. சிரமச்சாலை, a place for military exercise. சிரமசாத்தியம், that which is accomplishable with exertion. சிரமம்செய்ய, to practise arms, fencing etc. சிரமநிலை, practice of arms; exhausted condition. சிரமபரிகாரம், rest, இளைப்பாறுதல். சிரமப்பட, to suffer, to exert oneself. சிரமமானவேலை, a laborious task.
கட்டம் - Kattam
கஷ்டம், s. hardship hard work, பாடு; 2. human excrement, dung of dogs etc, மலம்.
கஷ்ட காலம், hard times. கஷ்டப்பட, to work hard; to toil. கஷ்ட நிவாரணம், --நிவர்த்தி, relief, alleviation of suffering. கஷ்டார்ச்சிதம், property obtained by hard toil.
பாடு - Paadu
s. (படு) suffering, pain, affliction, வருத்தம்; 2. hard work, labour, கஷ்டம்; 3. ruin loss, damage, injury, misfortune, அழிவு; 4. capture of fishes; 5. place, இடம்; 6. side, பக்கம்; 7. the setting of a planet. அஸ்தமனம்; 8. an affix to other substantives as in உறுதிப்பாடு, ஆசைப்பாடு; etc; 9. sign of the local ablative, ஏழனுருபு.
தன் பாடாய், by his own exertions or labour. தன் பாட்டில்போக, see under தன். பாடு கிடைக்கவில்லை, I can find no work for my subsistence. பாடெம்மாத்திரம், how much is the waste of silver etc. by melting. பாடாய் முடிய, to prove disastrous. பாடாய்விழ, to have a dangerous fall; 2. to sustain a heavy loss from a fall. பாடாவாரி, பாடாவறுதி, a very heavy or severe blow, a loss; confinement to a couch from a severe injury. பாடாவிதி, see பாடாவறுதி. பாடுபட, to suffer pain, to work hard. பாடுபடுத்த, to afflict, to keep one hard at work. பாடுபடுத்திக் கேட்க, to question by torture. பாடுபட்டுப் பிழைக்க, to live by hard labour. பாட்டாளி, a laborious or industrious person. பெரும்பாடு, great suffering, an immoderate flow of menses. மீன்பாடு, the capture of fishes in a net. பாட்டுக்காணி, -த்தரை, -நிலம்.waste land, sterile ground.
