அற்பம் - Arpam
s. (அல்பம்) smallness, சிறுமை; 2. a trifle inferiority, இழிவு; 3. dog, நாய்.
அற்பக்காரியம், a small insignificant matter, a trifle. அற்பசங்கை, அற்பாசமனம், passing urine. அற்பசொற்பம், insignificant thing (colloq.) அற்பாயுசு, short life. அற்பப் புத்தி, little sense, folly, mean disposition. அற்பமாய் எண்ண, to despise, slight. அற்பழுக்கில்லாத மனசு, a heart void of guile. அற்பன், a mean worthless man. "அற்பனுக்குப் பவிஷு வந்தால் அர்த்த ராத்திரியில் குடை பிடிப்பான்" Proverb. "The higher the ape goes, the more he shows his tail."
தோல் - Thool
s. skin, leather, hide, சருமம்; 2. rind, peel of fruits, coat of onions, arillus of seeds, உரி; 3. pod, husk of seeds, கோது; 4. leather bucket, bellows, துருத்தி; 5. an elephant, யானை; 6. thin layer, தேற்படலம்; 7. misfortune, ill luck, loss, அபசயம்; 8. beauty, அழகு; 9. a word, சொல்; 1. (fig.) a thing of no value, பயனில்லா தது.
தோலன், தோலான், s. (prov. தோலுணி, fem. தோலாள்) a mean, good-fornothing person, அற்பன். தோலுரிக்க, to flay, to peel, to skin. தோலைச்சீவ, to scrape off the skin or the coat of a kernel. தோல்சுருங்க, to shrivel, to shrink as skins. தோல்தனம், imprudence. தோல்நாய், a hunting dog. தோல்பதனிட, (பதமிட) to tan or dress leather. தோல்முட்டை, an egg laid before the shell is hard. தோல்வினைஞர், cobblers, workers in leather. தோற்கட்டு, armour for the lower part of the arm, chiefly of leather. தோற்கருவி, instruments made of skins such as drums, tabors etc., one of the five kinds of musical instruments. The 5 kinds are தோற் கருவி, instruments made of skins; துளைக்கருவி, wind instruments; நரம்புக்கருவி, stringed instruments, கஞ்சக்கருவி, instruments of metals as cymbals, bells etc; மிடற்றுக் கருவி, கண்டக்கருவி, the animal throat, as of men, birds etc. தோற்சித்தை, a leathern bottle. தோற்பரம், a buckler, a leathern shield. தோற்பறை, a leather bag, a leather bucket for drawing water, தோப் பறா. தோற்பாடி, a strumpet, தோய்ப்பாடி. தோற்புரை, pores of the skin, any membranous part of the body. தோற்பை, a leathern bag. தோற்பைமுலை, same as தோப்பைமுலை. தோற்பெட்டி, a leather trunk. தோற்றுன்னர், shoe-makers; 2. same as தோல்வினைஞர்.
