யானைக்குக் கவளங்கொடு, give balls of rice to the elephant. கொடுக்கல் வாங்கல், dealing, lending and borrowing. அவனுக்கும் எனக்கும் கொடுக்கல் வாங்கல் இருக்கிறது, he and I have dealings together; he and I have money dealings with each other. கொடுத்துவிட, to restore. கொடுபாடு, கொடுதலை, giving, paying off. கொடுப்பனை, கொடுப்பினை, giving in marriage, intermarriage, see கொள் வினை. கொடுப்பு, v. n. giving. ஒத்துக் கொடுக்க, to recompense, to compensate. காட்டிக் கொடுக்க, to betray. சாகக் கொடுக்க, to lose by death, as a mother her child etc. சொல்லிக் கொடுக்க, to instruct, to teach. நிறங் கொடுக்க, to tinge, give a colour. பெண் கொடுக்க, to give a girl in marriage. முடித்துக் கொடுக்க, to finish a thing for one. வாங்கிக் கொடுக்க, to buy for another. அவனுக்கு ஒரு குதிரை வாங்கிக் கொடுத் தேன், I bought a horse for him. விட்டுக் கொடுக்க, to give up, to relax.

அது எனக்குப் பொருந்தாது, it does not suit or please me. பொருந்தச் சொல்வோர், teachers of the Vedas etc., ஒத்துரைப்போர். பொருந்தர், weavers, as joining threads; 2. basket-makers. பொருந்தலர், பொருந்தார், foes. பொருந்த வைக்க, to join things separated; 2. to engraft; 3. to reconcile. பொருந்தாமல் போக, to disagree. பொருந்தாமை, neg. v. n. disunion, abhorrence, dislike, inconsistency. பொருந்திக் கொள்ள, to agree, to bargain. பொருந்தி வாங்க, to take a thing after having agreed about its price. பொருந்திவிட, to be joined as broken bones; 2. to stipulate.

"சூடுகண்ட பூனை அடுப்படி செல்லாது", "a burnt child dreads the fire." சூடடிக்க, to thrash the leaves. சூடுகாட்ட, to foment, to warm, to heat, to appear hot (as fever). சூடுகொள்ள, to become heated or feverish. சூடுண்டவன், one marked with a brandiron. சூடுபோட, -வைக்க, to brand cattle. சூட்டடி, v. n. the beating of sheaves (before threshing). சூட்டுக்கோல், a brand-iron. சூட்டோடு சூடாய், adv. in continuation, at a heat, தொடர்ச்சியாக. கைச்சூடு, heat of the hand; 2. the sheaf given to the reapers.
