தொண்டை -
s. the throat, மிடறு; 2. a good voice, a singing voice, இனிய குரல்; 3. hooting, bawling, a loud cry, பெருங்குரல்; 4. (Tel.) the trunk of an elephant; 5. the ஆதொண்டை shrub, capparis horrida; 6. the கொவ்வை plant or fruit.
தொண்டை கத்த, -யிட -வைக்க, to bawl out. தொண்டை கம்மியிருக்க, to be hoarse. தொண்டை காட்ட, தொண்டையைக் காட்ட, to speak loud with assumed authority, or as a bold man, உரத் துப்பேச. தொண்டைக் கதிர், that stage in growing corn when it is ready to shoot out ears. தொண்டைக் கனைப்பு, hawking. தொண்டைக்குழி, the pit of the throat. தொண்டை திறத்தல், becoming well opened as the throat of a singer, after singing for some time. தொண்டைப் புகைச்சல், itching or irritation of the throat. தொண்டைப் புற்று, a dangerous tumour in the the throat. தொண்டையில் விக்க, to be choked. தொண்டையை யடைத்துக்கொள்ள, to obstruct the throat. தொண்டையைநெரிக்க, தொண்டையைப் பிடித்துநெரிக்க, to strangle one.
புகைச்சல் - pukaiccal
s. smoking, fumication, haze, vapour, exhalation, புகை; 2. dimness of sight; 3. irritation of the throat inducing coughing; 4. slight burning in the stomach from sorrow, gnawing of hunger, வயிற்றெறிவு; 5. (fig.) getting publicity; 6. chagrin, ill-will, heart-burning.
புகைச்சல் போட, to make a smoke. கண் புகைச்சல், dimness of the eye.
